Not everyone is familiar with the permanent makeup world and that's totally okay! People like me have spent decades learning the ins and outs of the industry so you don't have to and so you can feel safe and supported when you work with us. I get lots of questions and if you know me, you know I'm an open book. Eyebrow microblading is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo procedure that has gained immense popularity in recent years. People of all ages are opting for this procedure to get fuller and more defined eyebrows, and I get to enjoy helping my incredible community of clients look and feel like their most beautiful selves.
If you're considering microblading, you probably have several questions about the procedure, its benefits, and aftercare. In this article, we will answer the most common questions about eyebrow microblading to help you make an informed decision.
What is eyebrow microblading?
Eyebrow microblading is a manual method of tattooing individual hair strokes into the skin to create the illusion of fuller eyebrows. A small handheld tool made up of tiny pins is used to deposit pigment into the skin, giving the eyebrows a natural, realistic look.
What are the benefits of eyebrow microblading?
The benefits of eyebrow microblading include fuller and more defined eyebrows, which can enhance your overall appearance. Additionally, this procedure can save you time and effort in your daily makeup routine. Microbladed eyebrows are also ideal for people with sparse eyebrows or those who want to reshape their eyebrows without undergoing surgery.
Is eyebrow microblading painful?
Eyebrow microblading is not a painful procedure, but you may experience some discomfort during the procedure. I always apply a numbing cream to minimize any discomfort. Some people may experience slight swelling or redness after the procedure, but these side effects usually subside within a few days.
How long does the effect last?
Eyebrow microblading's longevity is different for everyone, depending on your skin type and aftercare routine. You will need to touch up the pigment to maintain the desired look. I suggest annual touch-up appointments so you don't wait until you're no longer happy with the look to book your appointment. While most pigments are made up primarily of iron oxide, many are still carbon-based. As a result, the longevity of permanent makeup can not in good conscience be given a definitive time frame. It will fade over time, requiring annual maintenance. We can not say if or when it will fade out completely. Annual maintenance is very similar to maintaining your hair colour.
What should I expect during the healing process?
After the procedure, you may experience some swelling, redness, and tenderness in the eyebrow area. This is normal and should subside within a few days. It's also common for the pigment to look darker immediately after the procedure and then lighten over time as the skin heals.
Now, let's talk about some of the different types of microblading that I offer.
The difference between seamless powder & hybrid brows?
Seamless powder is a pixelated dusting technique that leaves the brows looking borderless. Seamless powder brows give a soft makeup look. Hybrid is the most natural, a mix of Microblading and shading. It’s neither powder or seamless. For a hybrid brow, microblading strokes are perfectly placed within our approved drawing and light shading is done to make the brow appear light and fluffy. You can choose to get a seamless brow, bold powder brow, and a hybrid which blends the two. You have the options to choose anything from a light, seamless brow to a heavy hybrid or bold powder brow or anywhere in between. The possibilities are endless. Powder brows offer more of a makeup look whereas hybrid brows look more natural.
What are powder brows?
Powder brows is a cosmetic semi-permanent makeup technique designed to create eyebrows with a soft powder effect, very similar to powder makeup. This is a result of machine work only that will make your eyebrows look as if you’re wearing your everyday eyebrow makeup without having to reapply it daily. They can be bold or soft, depending on if we do seamless or bold powder. As shown in the image below, these are both the same colour but one is seamless and one is bold, that’s a personal preference.
What are hybrid brows?
Hybrid brows combine the powder brow technique with a microblading border to give you a slightly bolder look while maintaining a natural appearance. The process begins with the perfect brow map that we will build together based on what you want. Next, the layering process begins. We hold the shape of your brow map with hair strokes done with a microblade. We then fill them in with machine shading. The two processes combined are the hybrid brow.
The difference between powder brows and microblading
Microblading is a form of semi-permanent tattoo. Tiny pins that make up a blade deposit pigment under the skin to create hair-like strokes throughout the brow. From there, a machine is used to do a light dusting of colour throughout to create density. The hybrid brow is the most natural look.
A powder brow is considered to be slightly bolder and more of a makeup look. It is more saturated and structured. The density gives off the illusion of a makeup-filled brow.
